To all our family and friends, Happy Holidays! To save on postage, please accept this blog post as our annual Christmas newsletter...ah, who am I kidding, we've never sent out a Christmas newsletter/card.
This year has been an emotional crazy hormone train for me, and the destination (motherhood) has proven to be just as unsettling (though thankfully it's been getting easier every month). But our baby boy, Damian Brock Markham, is the most handsome, sweetest, smiley boy there ever was! He was born on May 24th (a week before his due date) and as of Christmas Eve, he is now 7 months old and has become my little sidekick. The funnest part of being a mom is watching his personality come out more and more every day! So far he seems to be very outgoing and social-he's always well-behaved in public and so quick to smile when people talk to him! His favorite activities are going outside and being read and sung to (his favorite song is The Itsy-Bitsy Spider and will sometimes get upset if I finish and then start singing a different song). We are so so grateful that he is part of our family!
Before Damian joined us this year, I had been a project coordinator and graphic producer for Thinkwell Group (an Imagineering-type company) and was able to open a project I'd been working on for a couple of years. During the final phase in January I was able to go to the construction site in London and play tourist on the weekend - my first visit to the UK! My favorite part may have been walking from Kensington Palace to Buckingham Palace and admiring the gardens and architecture. I also loved seeing the art at the Tate Modern.
Since Damian was born, I have chosen to play stay-at-home mom for awhile. It's a huge change for me of course, but he's only little once (and growing so fast)!!! However, I utilize nap and quiet times to the fullest by working on my art and creative portfolio. My latest endeavor resulted in a little animated video for YouTube (you can watch it here). I loved the process so much that I hope to grow my YouTube channel over the next year with videos related to the Themed Entertainment (aka Imagineering) industry as well as some original short stories. Stay tuned!
Brock has been staying super busy working 3.5 jobs: Disneyland (Damian and I have loved visiting "Daddy" there!), Action Horizons (as a stuntman for Universal Studios theme park), Samba Brazilian Steakhouse (he enjoys utilizing his Portuguese there!), and occasionally as a background performer for TV shows. Incredulously, Brock still seems to fit in 2-hour gym workouts almost every day to support his bodybuilding goals. He has competed in 3 bodybuilding shows this year and hopes to do a couple more in 2020.
As if he wasn't busy enough, Brock received a paternity leave from Disney during the summer just long enough for Brock to perform professionally in his first-ever musical! He played Diesel in 5-Star Theatricals' production of West Side Story and I could not believe the choreographer was able to turn Brock into a dancer! He was just as good as any of the other experienced professionals up there (but a 1000x more attractive, of course)! Brock truly can do anything he sets his mind to.
In Church (we are part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Brock was released from his calling as Young Men's Secretary in October, which has allowed him to watch Damian in Primary with me, while I have continued leading singing time for all the children ages 3-11. After 2 years, I'm still convinced I have the best calling in the Church!
2019 has indeed been one for the books! We wish you and your families all the best during this holiday season!
Love,
The Markham Family
(Brittany, Brock, and Damian)
